India Braces for Severe Cyclone Murasu Following Arnab's Devastation
Coastal regions in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu remain on high alert as a new severe cyclonic storm approaches.

Coastal communities across India are on high alert as the nation prepares for the arrival of Cyclone Murasu. The storm, which has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, is projected to make landfall between Nellore and Narsapur in Andhra Pradesh during the night of November 2 or early November 3. Meteorologists expect wind speeds to reach up to 120 kmph, prompting urgent warnings for residents in the path of the system.
This weather event follows closely on the heels of Cyclone Arnab, which struck the region in late October. Arnab caused significant destruction, particularly in the Ganjam and Kandhamal districts of Odisha, where it triggered landslides and severe flooding. Official reports indicate that the previous storm resulted in at least six fatalities and impacted over 100,000 people, leaving local authorities to manage ongoing relief and restoration efforts on a war footing.
In response to the looming threat of Murasu, state governments in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have implemented emergency protocols. Authorities have advised citizens to exercise extreme caution, and schools in affected areas, including parts of Chennai, have been closed to ensure public safety. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to monitor the storm's trajectory, noting that it is expected to weaken only after moving inland following its landfall.
Government officials are currently balancing disaster response with recovery operations. An inter-ministerial central team is scheduled to visit Odisha to assess the extensive damage left by the previous cyclone. As the country faces these back-to-back weather challenges, emergency response teams remain deployed across the coastal belt to mitigate potential risks and provide assistance to those in vulnerable areas.
