India Braces for Cyclone Murasu Following Devastation from Cyclone Arnab
Coastal regions in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu remain on high alert as a new severe cyclonic storm approaches.

Following the destructive path of Cyclone Arnab, which claimed six lives and displaced over 100,000 people in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, the nation is now preparing for the arrival of Cyclone Murasu. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued urgent warnings as the storm intensifies into a severe cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal.
Named 'Murasu'—a term meaning 'war drum'—the storm is projected to make landfall between Nellore and Narsapur in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities expect wind speeds to reach up to 120 kmph, prompting widespread emergency measures across the coastal belt. The IMD has advised residents in vulnerable areas to exercise extreme caution as the system moves inland.
In the aftermath of Cyclone Arnab, state officials are working on a war footing to restore infrastructure and provide relief to the hardest-hit districts, including Ganjam and Kandhamal. An inter-ministerial central team is scheduled to visit Odisha to assess the extensive damage caused by the previous storm, which triggered multiple landslides and leveled numerous homes.
Neighboring states, including Tamil Nadu, have also been placed on high alert due to the threat of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Local administrations have taken proactive steps, including closing schools and deploying disaster response teams to manage potential water stagnation and flooding in low-lying regions. The government continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure public safety as the storm approaches.
