Trump Addresses GOP Midterm Defeat in '60 Minutes' Interview

President Donald Trump is set to appear on the upcoming episode of CBS News’s '60 Minutes' this Sunday, marking his first major television interview following the Republican Party's significant setbacks in the recent midterm elections. The interview, which was recorded at the White House on Friday, provides a platform for the president to address the political landscape after Democrats secured control of both the House and the Senate.

The sit-down features correspondent Ross Douthat, a former New York Times columnist who recently joined the program. During the double-length segment, the discussion is expected to cover a wide range of pressing issues, including the party's electoral performance, potential shifts in White House staffing, and the administration's approach to ongoing international conflicts in Ukraine and Iran.

This appearance follows a period of notable tension between the president and the network. Trump previously declined a traditional pre-election interview with the program in 2024 and later initiated legal action against CBS regarding a separate interview involving his opponent, Kamala Harris. Despite this history, the president has frequently acknowledged the high viewership of the newsmagazine, which remains a prominent fixture in American media.

As the administration prepares for the upcoming lame-duck session of Congress, the interview serves as a critical moment for the president to articulate his strategy moving forward. Observers are particularly focused on his remarks regarding potential personnel changes within his inner circle, as the White House navigates the aftermath of the midterm rout and looks toward the remainder of his term.
