Yemen Faces Surge in Violence with Over 50 Deaths in 24 Hours
A series of deadly airstrikes and ongoing clashes have marked one of the most violent days in the country's renewed conflict.

Yemen has experienced a devastating spike in hostilities, with reports confirming that more than 50 people were killed within a single 24-hour period. This surge in violence represents one of the most lethal stretches since the conflict between the Iran-backed Houthi militia and the Saudi-supported Yemeni government intensified earlier this year. The escalating situation has further strained an already fragile landscape, deepening what international observers describe as a severe humanitarian crisis.
According to Houthi officials, a significant portion of the casualties occurred during airstrikes that targeted the village of al-Shariya in the Bani Hushaysh district, located east of the capital, Sanaa. Local health authorities reported that at least 25 people, including a high number of women and children, lost their lives in the bombardment, with dozens more sustaining injuries. While Houthi representatives have attributed these strikes to the Saudi-led coalition, the coalition has not provided an immediate response to the allegations.
This tragedy followed another deadly incident in the contested Taiz province, where a crowded market was struck, resulting in at least 30 deaths. The responsibility for the market attack remains a point of contention, as both the Houthi militia and government-aligned forces have traded accusations regarding who initiated the strike. The lack of independent verification in these conflict zones continues to complicate efforts to determine the exact circumstances behind these civilian losses.
The recent uptick in violence is part of a broader trend of instability that has plagued the nation since military hostilities resumed in August. Data from the World Health Organization indicates that the conflict has already claimed nearly 1,800 lives and displaced over 300,000 people in recent months. As the fighting persists across multiple fronts, the humanitarian toll continues to mount, leaving millions of civilians caught in the crossfire of a war that has persisted for over a decade.
