Taliban Spokesman Categorizes Badakhshan Conflict Reports as Fabricated Propaganda

The central government of Afghanistan has formally dismissed recent reports of armed conflict in Badakhshan province, labeling them as malicious propaganda disseminated by external actors. Zabihullah Mujahid, the chief spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, stated that the security situation in the northeastern region remains entirely under the control of state forces. He asserted that no group or malicious element would be permitted to jeopardize the stability of the nation. The official denial follows accounts circulating on social media regarding alleged skirmishes in districts such as Zebak and areas bordering the Durand Line. While some independent reports suggested movements of armed opposition groups attempting to enter the province, the Ministry of Defense clarified that these incidents were minor and had been immediately contained. The administration emphasized that the rumors of a widespread rebellion are factually incorrect and designed to create public anxiety. Local officials in Badakhshan, including the provincial governor, have echoed this sentiment, maintaining that the region’s residents are supportive of the current political system. They highlighted that recent tensions—previously linked to poppy eradication campaigns—have been resolved through community dialogue and tribal mediation. The government insists that their enforcement of the narcotics ban remains a priority that does not signify internal instability. Observers note that Badakhshan’s rugged geography often makes it a focal point for security narratives, as its remote valleys are difficult to monitor. Mujahid warned that those who continue to spread unfounded rumors about the state of security will be held accountable under the law. He reiterated that the Islamic Emirate’s door remains open for peaceful reconciliation, but armed resistance will not be tolerated. Despite the official rhetoric, residents in the area have expressed a desire for sustained peace and economic development rather than renewed conflict. Many community elders have called for increased transparency to prevent the spread of misinformation. As the government continues its security operations, the focus remains on ensuring that border integrity is maintained against any potential incursions from outside groups.
