Multi-State Manhunt Intensifies for Escaped Tennessee Murderer
Authorities are searching for a convicted killer who fled to Illinois after breaking out of a Tennessee correctional facility.

A massive search operation is underway for 28-year-old Jacob Morley, a convicted murderer who escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Tennessee, late Sunday night. Prison officials discovered the breach after security footage confirmed he had climbed through a perimeter fence while still wearing his prison-issued uniform. The escape has sparked significant scrutiny regarding prison security protocols and the speed at which external law enforcement was notified.
Investigators report that shortly after his departure from the facility, Morley stole a white 2008 Ford F-350 in Lake County. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned in Marion, Illinois, approximately 130 miles north of the prison. Surveillance evidence suggests the truck was left in the Illinois city early Monday morning, though local police did not locate the vehicle until Tuesday, leaving a window of time where the fugitive's movements remained unmonitored.
District Attorney Danny Goodman Jr. has expressed deep concern over the communication gap between the Tennessee Department of Correction and local law enforcement agencies. According to officials, Morley had already reached Illinois by the early hours of Monday, yet local authorities were not alerted to the situation until several hours later. Critics argue that this delay hindered the ability of regional police to intercept the suspect before he could travel further.
Morley, who was serving a life sentence for crimes including first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, and tampering with evidence, is now considered a high-priority target for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. A combined reward of $17,500 has been offered by state and federal agencies for information leading to his capture. As the manhunt continues, residents in the region are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity near vacant properties or outbuildings.
