India Boosts Energy Infrastructure and Strategic Defense Capabilities
The government approves major grid-scale storage investments while advancing international missile export partnerships.

The Indian government has taken significant steps to bolster its national infrastructure and strategic reach. In a major policy move, the Union Cabinet has approved a ₹14,500-crore scheme aimed at developing 92 GWh of grid-scale energy storage capacity. This initiative is designed to help state utilities manage surplus power more effectively and stabilize the national grid, marking a critical shift toward a more resilient energy future. Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned a ₹2,814-crore investment to enhance domestic processing of essential minerals like lithium and nickel, further securing the supply chain for clean energy technologies.
On the international front, India is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to expand its supersonic cruise missile exports to the Philippines. This potential deal, valued between $700 million and $800 million, underscores India's growing role as a key defense supplier in the Indo-Pacific region. The move reflects a broader strategy to strengthen bilateral security ties and promote indigenous defense manufacturing on the global stage.
Domestically, the country continues to navigate various challenges. Environmental concerns remain at the forefront as Delhi faces worsening air quality ahead of the festive season, prompting the enforcement of strict firework restrictions. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has been closely monitoring the aftermath of Cyclone Murasu, which has weakened into a depression over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh after making landfall.
Political and legal developments also remain active. The IT Ministry has initiated discussions regarding a potential overhaul of the regulatory framework for social media, specifically considering the removal of legal immunity for platforms. Simultaneously, the Supreme Court has intervened in administrative matters, emphasizing the necessity of timely judicial processes for detainees. As the nation balances these diverse priorities, the government continues to focus on long-term economic modernization and regional stability.
