Cyclone Arnab Leaves Trail of Destruction Across Coastal India
Severe weather impacts Andhra Pradesh as recovery efforts begin following the storm's landfall.

The eastern coast of India has been grappling with the aftermath of Cyclone Arnab, a powerful storm system that made landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam earlier this week. The cyclone, which struck as a very severe cyclonic storm, brought intense rainfall and high-velocity winds, resulting in the tragic loss of at least five lives in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities confirmed that the storm's landfall process lasted approximately six hours, causing significant disruption across the region.
In the wake of the disaster, government officials have been actively monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and coordinate relief operations. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a review of the ground conditions, noting that while there were reports of tree falls and minor infrastructure damage in several locations, emergency response teams were deployed promptly to clear debris and restore normalcy. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has since reported that the cyclone has weakened, though heavy rain forecasts remain in place for parts of Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
Beyond the immediate weather crisis, the national political landscape remains charged. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organized nationwide protests in response to controversial remarks made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father. The BJP has characterized these comments as offensive, leading to a heightened state of political confrontation between the two major parties.
Meanwhile, other developments continue to shape the national agenda. In Karnataka, the government has announced an increase in milk prices, while educational institutions in areas like Jamia Millia Islamia have adjusted their operational schedules due to local safety concerns. As the country navigates these diverse challenges, from climate-related emergencies to intense political debates, the focus remains on maintaining stability and supporting affected communities.
