Cyclone Arnab Leaves Trail of Destruction Across Coastal India
Severe storm makes landfall in Andhra Pradesh, resulting in five fatalities and widespread infrastructure damage.

A powerful weather system, Cyclone Arnab, has struck the eastern coast of India, making landfall in Andhra Pradesh with wind speeds reaching up to 135kph. The severe cyclonic storm has caused significant disruption, leading to the evacuation of approximately 180,000 residents as authorities scrambled to mitigate the impact of the intense weather event.
Tragically, officials have confirmed that the storm has claimed at least five lives so far. The cyclone brought torrential rainfall and high-velocity winds that have uprooted trees, damaged public infrastructure, and devastated local crops across several coastal districts. The scale of the destruction has prompted an urgent response from both state and central government agencies.
In a coordinated relief effort, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed to the affected regions. These teams are currently working to clear debris, restore essential services like electricity, and provide aid to those displaced by the flooding. The Indian Air Force has also been utilized to transport critical resources to the hardest-hit areas.
While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the system is beginning to weaken as it moves inland, the threat of heavy rain persists in neighboring regions, including Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. Local authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant as recovery operations commence in the wake of the storm's passage.
