Bernie Sanders Signals Openness to Impeaching HHS Secretary Kennedy
Incoming Senate health committee chair Bernie Sanders says he is willing to consider impeachment proceedings against Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Senator Bernie Sanders, who is set to lead the Senate health committee in the upcoming session, has publicly stated that he is open to the possibility of impeaching Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. During a recent appearance on CNN’s "State of the Union," the Vermont senator indicated his willingness to explore the measure following suggestions from other Democratic lawmakers, including South Carolina Senator-elect Annie Andrews.
Sanders emphasized that the nation requires an HHS leader who prioritizes the well-being of children and the general public rather than one who engages in what he described as "crazy conspiracy theories." His comments follow a series of Democratic electoral successes that have shifted the balance of power in the Senate, providing the party with a new platform to challenge the current administration's health policies.
In addition to the potential for impeachment, Sanders confirmed that he intends to use his committee chairmanship to hold Kennedy accountable. He promised to summon the secretary for rigorous questioning regarding his tenure, noting that there are significant inquiries that have yet to be addressed by the health official.
Critics of Kennedy, including various public health advocates and Democratic colleagues, have long accused him of undermining federal health initiatives and spreading misinformation. While some Democrats have called for his immediate resignation, others are pushing for formal congressional action to remove him from his post.
In response to the growing pressure, a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services defended the secretary’s record, asserting that Kennedy has implemented significant public health reforms. The agency maintained that the administration remains focused on its "Make America Healthy Again" agenda and that threats of impeachment will not deter their efforts to serve the American people.
