AMY ACTON CAMPAIGN

The 2026 Ohio governor’s race is drawing heavy national media attention after a controversial $4 million television and online attack ad was confirmed by Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign on October 20, 2026. The 60-second ad features Dr. Amy Acton’s estranged biological mother, Donna Arthur, who claims her daughter has lied about her upbringing.

In response, the Amy Acton campaign fiercely condemned the commercial. Acton's brother publicly clarified that Acton was legally removed from their mother's custody at age 12 due to severe neglect and sexual abuse by a stepfather. Acton released a statement declaring she would not allow political opponents to weaponize her childhood trauma. Meanwhile, Ramaswamy’s team stood by the advertisement, arguing that voters have a right to evaluate what they characterize as a pattern of dishonesty from the candidate.

Born on February 16, 1966, in Youngstown, Ohio, Dr. Amy Acton grew up overcoming severe childhood adversity, including periods of homelessness and food insecurity. She completed her undergraduate degree at Youngstown State University, earned her medical degree (M.D.) from Northeast Ohio Medical University, and went on to obtain a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from The Ohio State University. As a physician specializing in pediatrics and preventive medicine, Acton has built a career dedicated to community well-being. She previously taught as an assistant professor at The Ohio State University College of Public Health and directed community health and grant initiatives for** The Columbus Foundation.**

**In 2019, Governor Mike DeWine **appointed Acton as the first female physician to lead the Ohio Department of Health. She earned widespread public praise and a 2021 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for her empathetic, transparent televised briefings and proactive stay-at-home orders during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to intensifying political pushback and protests outside her private residence, she resigned from her post in June 2020.
