Zelensky Alleges Trump Is Pressuring Ukraine Toward Capitulation
Ukrainian President claims U.S. administration is using policy shifts to force a surrender to Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly accused U.S. President Donald Trump of actively pressuring Kyiv to concede to Russia. In a recent interview, Zelensky suggested that specific actions taken by the current American administration appear designed to coerce Ukraine into a surrender, marking a significant escalation in the diplomatic friction between the two leaders. While Zelensky stopped short of explicitly stating that capitulation is the primary objective of his American partners, he expressed deep concern over the trajectory of U.S. policy.
Central to these allegations are claims that the United States has deliberately slowed the delivery of critical military support, including interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems and Starshield technology. Zelensky characterized these delays as more than mere technical failures, viewing them as part of a broader strategy to force Ukraine into a position where it must pay a heavy price to end the conflict quickly. This perceived shift in support has left the Ukrainian leadership feeling increasingly isolated.
In response to the mounting pressure, Zelensky has proposed a strategic trade-off: he offered to halt Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries in exchange for the urgent provision of additional Patriot air-defense systems. This proposal comes amid international concerns regarding rising global diesel prices, which have intensified calls for Ukraine to cease its targeting of Russian fuel infrastructure. The Ukrainian president maintains that such a deal would be a necessary step to protect his nation's own infrastructure from ongoing aerial bombardment.
Meanwhile, the relationship between the two leaders has continued to deteriorate. President Trump has publicly criticized Zelensky, describing Ukraine as being in a state of disarray and suggesting that the country requires new leadership capable of reaching an agreement with Moscow. Trump has also claimed that his administration is actively negotiating a path to peace, though these efforts have been met with skepticism from Kyiv, where officials fear that any such deal would come at the expense of Ukrainian sovereignty.
