TD Bank COO Taylan Turan Departs After Less Than One Year
The sudden exit of the chief operating officer marks another leadership transition as TD Bank navigates a period of significant organizational restructuring.

TD Bank Group has announced that its Chief Operating Officer, Taylan Turan, is stepping down from his position after serving for less than a year. The Toronto-based financial institution did not disclose a specific reason for his departure, nor did it immediately name a successor to take over his operational responsibilities. Turan had joined the bank on September 29 of last year, reporting directly to CEO Raymond Chun.
Before his tenure at TD, Turan held prominent roles at major global financial firms, including HSBC, where he served as the global CEO of retail banking, as well as positions at Barclays and Citigroup. His exit is part of a broader executive shakeup occurring under the leadership of CEO Raymond Chun, who assumed the top role following a challenging period for the bank.
This leadership transition follows a difficult chapter for TD Bank, which was hit with over US$3 billion in regulatory fines in 2024 due to failures related to anti-money laundering protocols. The bank has been actively reshuffling its senior management team as it works to address these regulatory shortcomings and implement a new strategic direction.
Alongside the announcement of Turan’s departure, the bank confirmed other leadership changes effective September 4, including the appointment of Renu Gupta as the new chief strategy and commercial officer. These ongoing adjustments reflect the bank's efforts to stabilize its operations and restore confidence following the significant legal and financial hurdles it faced in the United States.
