A federal investigation into a suspicious fire at the Senatobia Police Department has resulted in an arrest. The blaze, which broke out around 4:30 a.m. on October 31, caused damage to the department's main headquarters. While the building sustained impact, local officials confirmed that police operations have continued without significant disruption to public safety services.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) New Orleans Field Division spearheaded the inquiry into the incident. Following a collaborative effort involving the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Huntsville Police Department, authorities successfully located and detained a suspect. The case is currently being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi.

This incident occurred against a backdrop of heightened community scrutiny regarding the Senatobia Police Department. The agency has faced significant public outcry following the June 14 death of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley, who was killed when an officer opened fire during a shoplifting investigation. Although the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office recently determined the officer's use of force was legally justified, the department has remained a focal point of local controversy.

In addition to the shooting, the department has dealt with internal leadership challenges, including the recent termination of its police chief following reports of inappropriate conduct. Despite these ongoing difficulties, interim leadership has maintained a commitment to community protection. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the arson is directly linked to the recent civil unrest or the department's internal issues.

To assist in the ongoing investigation, a $5,000 reward was previously offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Law enforcement officials continue to urge anyone with relevant details regarding the incident to contact the ATF. The investigation remains active as authorities work to finalize the details of the case.
