Statewide Manhunt Intensifies for Convicted Murderer Who Fled Tennessee Prison

A massive manhunt is currently underway for 28-year-old Jacob Morley, a convicted murderer who escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Tennessee. Prison officials discovered Morley was missing late Sunday night after he successfully breached a perimeter fence at the facility. The Tennessee Department of Correction has since launched an extensive search operation to locate the fugitive, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Following his escape, investigators identified that Morley allegedly stole a white 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck from a nearby location. Surveillance footage captured the theft, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning. The vehicle, which featured branding from a local planting company, became a primary focus for law enforcement as they tracked his potential movements across state lines.

On Tuesday, authorities confirmed that the stolen truck had been discovered abandoned in Marion, Illinois. A local resident alerted the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) after spotting the vehicle parked behind a business. Despite a thorough search of the surrounding area by local police, no evidence was found to suggest that Morley remained in the immediate vicinity of the abandoned truck.

Morley is currently serving a life sentence for the 2022 first-degree murder of Cody Birchfield in Carter County. In addition to his murder conviction, his criminal record includes charges for aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse. The TBI has officially added him to its Most Wanted list as the search expands.

Law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and to check home security, doorbell, and trail cameras for any signs of the escapee. Officials have explicitly warned citizens not to approach Morley if he is spotted, but instead to contact 911 or the TBI immediately. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to pursue leads regarding his current whereabouts.
