Serena Williams Honored with New Signature Barbie Doll
Mattel celebrates the tennis legend with a collectible doll commemorating her iconic 2005 Australian Open victory.

In a tribute to one of the most celebrated careers in sports history, Mattel has unveiled a new Barbie Signature doll modeled after tennis icon Serena Williams. Released in time for International Day of the Girl, the collectible figurine honors Williams’ remarkable performance at the 2005 Australian Open, a tournament that marked a significant comeback and her seventh Grand Slam singles title. The doll is designed to inspire young fans by highlighting the resilience and determination that defined her time on the court.
The doll’s aesthetic is a faithful recreation of the outfit Williams wore during her championship match against Lindsay Davenport. It features a distinctive green-and-white cutout top with mesh detailing, paired with a crisp white skirt, matching sweatband, socks, and athletic footwear. To complete the look, the doll comes equipped with a tennis racket and ball, capturing the essence of her competitive spirit.
This release marks the second time this year that Mattel has honored the 45-year-old athlete. In March, the company introduced a one-of-a-kind doll celebrating her role as an entrepreneur and trailblazer. Williams noted that these two dolls represent different facets of her life, describing them as the 'business side' and the 'sports side' of her journey. By joining Team Barbie, Williams aligns herself with a group of influential role models chosen to encourage confidence and ambition in the next generation.
Reflecting on the significance of the project, Williams shared that she rarely saw figures who looked like her while growing up, which makes this representation particularly meaningful. She expressed a hope that children who play with the doll will recognize their own potential to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams without limits. Nathan Baynard, Vice President and Head of Barbie at Mattel, praised Williams as a barrier-breaking icon whose legacy continues to empower fans to embrace their own capabilities.
The Serena Williams Barbie Signature doll is currently available for purchase through major retailers and the Mattel Creations website, retailing for $45. Through this collaboration, the brand continues its mission to showcase diverse paths to success, ranging from the athletic arena to the boardroom.
