Senatobia Police Leadership Shifts Following Fatal Toddler Shooting

In the wake of the public release of body-camera footage, a Mississippi police officer involved in the fatal shooting of a 1-year-old boy has resigned from his position. Hunter Foster, a sergeant with the Senatobia Police Department, stepped down following the incident that occurred in a local Walmart parking lot this past June. The resignation was confirmed by Mayor Greg Graves, who noted that the city's board of aldermen accepted the departure on October 21.

The shooting took place while officers were responding to a reported shoplifting incident. During the encounter, Foster fired into a moving vehicle, resulting in the death of the toddler, Kohen Wiley. The event has sparked significant public outcry and legal scrutiny, with the family of the deceased child signaling their intent to pursue a civil lawsuit against those involved.

Earlier this week, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office concluded an investigation into the matter, determining that the use of force was justified. Despite this legal clearance, the release of the official body-camera video has intensified the national conversation regarding police accountability and the use of lethal force during vehicle pursuits.

In addition to the officer's resignation, Senatobia’s interim police chief, Angelica Maze, has also stepped down from her leadership role. Mayor Graves confirmed that Maze has returned to her previous position within the department. The dual departures mark a period of significant transition for the Senatobia law enforcement agency, which has faced ongoing challenges and public pressure throughout the investigation.
