Senatobia Police Leadership Shifts Following Fatal Toddler Shooting
An officer and the interim police chief have resigned in the wake of the public release of body-camera footage showing the death of a one-year-old boy.

In the aftermath of a tragic incident that claimed the life of one-year-old Kohen Wiley, significant leadership changes have occurred within the Senatobia Police Department. Mayor Greg Graves confirmed that Hunter Foster, the officer responsible for the fatal shooting, has officially resigned from his position. The resignation follows the recent public release of body-camera footage documenting the June encounter, which occurred in a local Walmart parking lot during a pursuit related to an alleged shoplifting incident.
While the Mississippi Attorney General’s office recently concluded a monthslong investigation, determining that the officer's use of force was legally justified, the release of the video has reignited intense public scrutiny. Foster’s legal representatives have maintained that the officer felt compelled to discharge his weapon into the moving vehicle to protect his own life during the confrontation.
In addition to the officer's departure, Angelica Maze, who had been serving as the interim police chief, has also stepped down from her leadership role. Mayor Graves indicated that Maze has returned to her previous position within the department, though specific details regarding the timing and reasoning behind her resignation remain undisclosed.
The death of the young child has prompted calls for further oversight, with the Wiley family’s legal team advocating for a federal investigation by the Department of Justice. As the community processes the release of the graphic footage, the city faces ongoing questions regarding police protocols and the use of force in public spaces.
