Senate unanimously passes Passport Act Amendment Bill 2026

None of 30,000 blue passports that have been taken back is parliamentarian, Talal Chaudhry

Islamabad: In Senate session, House unanimously passed bill to amend Passports Act 1974 demanding immediate end to permission to give blue passport to children of government officers.

According to Express News, Senate session was held under chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir in which Senator Abdul Qadir presented bill for further amendment in Passport Act 1974 in House, Deputy Chairman Senate got motion voted upon after which House unanimously approved motion.

Either abolish blue passports of government employees or give us also, Abdul Qadir

Senator Abdul Qadir said that children of Grade 21 government officers get blue passport, an MNA when elected gets blue passport, same principle we want to bring for Senators, either abolish blue passports of government employees also or give us also.

Children of government officers should not get blue passports, Law Minister

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that in National Assembly one oath taking is considered as term, in Senate until you complete 6-year term you do not get official passports, Interior Minister is supporting that Senators should also be given passport like National Assembly, children of Grade 21 and 22 government retired officers should also not get blue passports, Interior Minister should rectify this matter also.

Children of government officers should be stopped from giving blue passport, Talal Chaudhry

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that we oppose giving passport to former parliamentarians, if children of government officers are getting then we should stop them, matter of blue passports directly affects ranking of passport, when we talk about visa-free entry with another country they ask you have blue passports, we say we have 75,000 blue passports in our country, we have already reduced number of blue passports.

Taking NOC from Ministry of Interior for blue passport for members of Parliament is our humiliation, Abid Sher Ali

Senator Abid Sher Ali said that members of Parliament have to take NOC from Ministry of Interior to make blue passport, as Senators this is our humiliation, this is violation of our right, is this status of our Senators? Why should I take NOC from Ministry of Interior to get passport made?

Cancel blue passports of retired government officers and children, Nasir Butt

Senator Nasir Butt also said that why should I take NOC from Ministry of Interior for blue passport? This thing should end, there are 78,000 blue passports in this country, they have also retired, their children also have blue passports, cancel their passports, they should rest at home.

I object to NOC of Ministry of Interior, Faisal Saleem Rahman

Senator Faisal Saleem Rahman said that Deputy Chairman Senate should get diplomatic passport not official, Ministry of Interior has implemented taking NOC for members of Parliament, members of Parliament object to NOC of Ministry of Interior, children of members of Parliament get blue passport, not after retirement.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that if passports of former bureaucrats are wrong then bring bill we will support it, no one had asked NOC from them and no one asked NOC from parliamentarians, whoever asks for passport then its high-level verification is done, rules and regulations say members can get passport for two years.

Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir said that why diplomatic passport is not given to Deputy Chairman Senate?

On this Talal Chaudhry said that Law Minister is bringing bill to take back blue passports from children of former secretaries, blue passports will also be taken back from children of former secretaries, whenever there is talk of visa-free with any country they talk about official passports, none of 30,000 blue passports that have been taken back is parliamentarian.

Senator Aamir Chishti said that passport of a Senator's daughter is not being made, Senator Zarqa's passport is not being made for 6 months.

Senator Abid Sher Ali said that in Interior Committee Secretary Interior said NOC is required, Secretary Interior said I am answerable to Minister not to you, I myself go DG Passport said I have instruction from Ministry of Interior you should not entertain anyone, as Senator do I need NOC from any institution?

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that we all are sitting here for service of people, I also came to know from some friends, no one needs NOC.

30,000 blue passports issued, make at least one an example, Dilawar Khan

Senator Dilawar Khan said that if 30,000 blue passports were issued then department issued them, make at least one of those 30,000 an example, get inquiry done of period in which these 30,000 passports were issued, if passport was given to any ineligible person then make at least one an example.

Later House unanimously passed Passport Amendment Bill 2026 to amend Passports Act 1974.

Meanwhile amendment bill related to salaries and allowances of members of Parliament was withdrawn in Senate.
