Real Madrid Defender Raul Asencio Acquitted in Privacy Case
Spanish court clears footballer of sharing explicit video after victims grant forgiveness.

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been officially acquitted of charges related to the distribution of a sexually explicit video. The legal proceedings, which took place in a court on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, concluded after the victims involved in the case formally expressed their forgiveness toward the defendants. This act of reconciliation led the Public Prosecutor's Office to withdraw the charges against Asencio, effectively ending the trial regarding the disclosure of private images.
While Asencio was cleared of the primary allegations, three other former Real Madrid youth players involved in the same case received one-year prison sentences. These sentences were suspended on the condition that the individuals avoid further legal infractions during the probationary period. The case had centered on the unauthorized recording and sharing of sexual content involving two women, one of whom was a minor at the time of the incident.
Following the verdict, Asencio released a public statement expressing his relief at the conclusion of the judicial process. He emphasized his long-standing trust in the legal system and noted that he is eager to move past this difficult chapter. The defender also took the opportunity to thank his family and the club for their support throughout the ordeal, while acknowledging the significant emotional toll the media scrutiny had placed on his loved ones.
In a separate development, the footballer addressed a recent drink-driving conviction that resulted in a €14,400 fine and an eight-month driving ban. Real Madrid manager José Mourinho confirmed that the club has initiated disciplinary proceedings regarding the player's conduct. Despite these challenges, Mourinho indicated that Asencio remains part of the team's future plans as he continues his recovery from an ongoing injury.
