OpenAI Explores Massive $30 Billion Funding Round
The AI developer is reportedly targeting a $1.4 trillion valuation as it pushes back plans for an initial public offering.

OpenAI is currently in the early stages of discussions for a significant new financing round, aiming to secure at least $30 billion in capital. According to reports, the company is seeking a valuation of approximately $1.4 trillion, a figure that excludes the new funds being raised. This potential deal highlights the intense investor interest in the artificial intelligence sector and would solidify OpenAI's position as one of the most valuable private companies globally.
The proposed valuation represents a substantial increase—roughly 64%—over the company's $852 billion valuation recorded in March. While some earlier reports suggested the company was weighing a valuation as high as $1.5 trillion, current discussions appear to be centering on the $1.4 trillion mark. The surge in valuation is reportedly being driven by strong demand from investors eager to back the developer of ChatGPT.
This fundraising effort serves as a strategic bridge for the company, which has officially delayed its plans for an initial public offering (IPO). CEO Sam Altman recently indicated that a public debut in 2026 would be premature, noting that the organization is prioritizing AI safety and long-term development. Consequently, the company is now looking toward 2027 for a potential market entry.
OpenAI’s push for a higher valuation is reportedly supported by its recent growth in enterprise adoption. The company has pointed to the success of its advanced models, such as GPT-6 Astra and GPT-5.6 Sol, as well as the increasing utility of its coding tools like Codex, as evidence of its expanding market influence. As the firm continues to compete with rivals like Anthropic, this capital injection would provide the necessary resources to scale its research and infrastructure efforts.
