Long Beach Resident Injured During Confrontation with ICE Agents

A former Long Beach city employee was hospitalized following a physical encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents this past Saturday. The individual, identified as Ricardo Gonzalez, was reportedly riding an e-bike when he was struck by an unmarked vehicle linked to the federal agency. Witnesses and family members have raised significant concerns regarding the nature of the operation, which resulted in Gonzalez being handcuffed and left bleeding on the ground.

Local authorities were alerted to the situation after community members, including Gonzalez himself, placed 911 calls to report suspicious activity involving unmarked vehicles in the area. When Long Beach police arrived at the scene, they discovered a large group disturbance involving federal agents. According to official statements, the police found Gonzalez already in custody, restrained and suffering from visible injuries.

Video footage circulating online captures the intensity of the encounter, showing Gonzalez pinned to the ground by an agent wearing a vest marked "Police ICE." In the recordings, the victim can be heard pleading for medical assistance and stating that his arm had been broken. Long Beach police eventually intervened to de-escalate the situation, transporting Gonzalez to a local fire station where his restraints were removed before he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson expressed deep frustration over the lack of transparency surrounding the incident, noting that his attempts to reach ICE through official complaint channels have been unsuccessful. The mayor described the event as a troubling breakdown in accountability that has left the community with more questions than answers regarding the conduct of the federal agents involved.

U.S. Representative Robert Garcia has publicly condemned the actions of the agents, characterizing the incident as a brutal attack on a U.S. citizen. As the investigation continues, a fundraising campaign has been established by the victim's family to assist with the mounting medical expenses resulting from the injuries sustained during the arrest.
