Kyle Kennedy WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HER.

Kyle Kennedy, an educator, disability advocate, and granddaughter of Robert F. "Bobby" and Ethel Kennedy, died at the age of 42.

Her family announced her peaceful passing at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts, on September 21, 2026. While an official cause of death has not yet been publicly disclosed, she had spent the last several years managing long-term paralysis and significant medical challenges resulting from a severe spinal cord injury sustained in 2020.

Early Life and Career in Education

Born on July 6, 1984, in Washington, D.C., Kyle Francis Kennedy was the daughter of Michael L. Kennedy (who tragically died in a skiing accident in 1997) and Victoria Denise Gifford. Through her mother, she was also the step-granddaughter of television host Kathie Lee Gifford

Kyle spent the majority of her youth in Massachusetts before pursuing an extensive and high-level path in educational policy:

• Georgetown University: Earned a bachelor’s degree in history. • Teach For America: Began her career directly on the ground, teaching in the New York City public school system. • Pace University: Earned a Master of Science in Early Education. • Harvard Graduate School of Education: Earned a Master of Education in Education Policy and Management. Throughout her professional life, she worked alongside technology firms and charter networks to reform, redesign, and improve school curricula, heavily focusing on creating equitable educational opportunities for disadvantaged children.

**Athleticism and Disability Advocacy ** Kyle was a passionate athlete and long-distance runner. Notably, she completed the grueling 2019 Boston Marathon in a driving rainstorm, finishing the race 20 minutes faster than her late father's personal best time. Following her paralyzing injury in 2020, Kyle adapted her fierce determination toward public policy advocacy for the disabled community. She frequently focused her efforts on health care disparities, which included testifying directly at the Massachusetts State House during public hearings regarding systemic discrimination against individuals with disabilities in the medical field.

Family and Survivors

In 2012, Kyle married Liam Kerr in Boston. Together they had three children, though their daughter Josie tragically passed away just days after her birth. Kyle's obituary notes her unwavering commitment to her two surviving adolescent sons, 12-year-old Conor and 10-year-old Declan, noting that she "fought to maintain her dry wit and determination through it all, trying to be the best possible mother to her sons". She is additionally survived by her mother, Victoria, and her siblings, Michael and Rory
