KenGen Appoints Ronoh Kibet Charles as New Chief Executive
The veteran executive will take the helm of Kenya's leading power producer in February 2027.

The board of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has officially named Ronoh Kibet Charles as its incoming Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The announcement, made on October 24, 2026, follows a rigorous and competitive recruitment process aimed at securing the future leadership of the nation's primary electricity generator.
Mr. Kibet is set to assume his new responsibilities on February 1, 2027. He will take over from the outgoing CEO, Eng. Peter Waweru Njenga, who is scheduled to retire. To ensure a seamless transition and maintain the company's strategic momentum, the organization has planned an orderly handover period between the two leaders.
Bringing over 17 years of professional experience to the role, Mr. Kibet has built a strong reputation within the energy sector. His expertise spans geothermal development, complex project delivery, and the implementation of robust commercial strategies. Prior to this appointment, he served as the company's General Manager for Commercial Services, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the firm's business direction.
Under the outgoing leadership of Eng. Njenga, KenGen achieved notable financial milestones, including a profit after tax of 10.48 billion Kenyan shillings for the 2025 financial year. The board and staff have expressed their gratitude to the retiring CEO for his dedicated service and leadership during his tenure.
As the incoming head of East Africa's largest power producer, Mr. Kibet is expected to continue the company's focus on renewable energy expansion. He has already been active in promoting the firm's vision, recently emphasizing the importance of mobilizing capital to transform Africa's green energy resources into sustainable industrial growth and economic opportunity.
