Kawempe Muslim Ladies Secure Historic Victory Over Defending Champions
Ugandan debutants stun AS FAR Rabat with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

In a remarkable introduction to continental football, Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies achieved a historic 3-2 victory against the reigning champions, AS FAR Rabat, during their opening Group B match of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt. The match, held at the Suez Canal Stadium, saw the Ugandan side demonstrate immense resilience after falling behind early in the contest.
AS FAR Rabat took an early lead in the sixth minute through a powerful strike from Fatima Tagnaout. However, the Ugandan representatives returned from the halftime break with renewed intensity. Agnes Nabukenya leveled the score in the 53rd minute with a clinical long-range effort, and captain Shakirah Nyinagahirwa put the team ahead just five minutes later with a composed finish from a tight angle.
Although the Moroccan champions managed to equalize via a penalty from Doha El Madani in the 69th minute, the Valley Warriors refused to settle for a draw. In a thrilling conclusion to the match, Agnes Nabukenya struck again in the 94th minute, securing a dramatic stoppage-time winner that cemented the team's place in history as the first Ugandan club to win a match at the tournament finals.
This victory marks a significant milestone for the club, which qualified for the competition after winning the CECAFA zonal qualifiers. Under the guidance of long-time coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, the team has now positioned itself as a serious contender for a spot in the knockout stages. The squad is set to carry this momentum into their next fixture against Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa on November 5, as they continue their pursuit of continental glory.
