Goods Transport Alliance hints at raising fares, also threatens nationwide strike again

Decision to change petroleum product prices on a daily basis is unacceptable, Malik Shehzad Awan
Karachi: The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has hinted at increasing fares if petroleum product prices are further increased and has also threatened to go on a nationwide strike again.
President of All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, Malik Shehzad Awan, while reacting strongly to the federal government's increase in petroleum product prices, said that if diesel and petrol prices are increased further, they will increase goods transport fares across Pakistan.
Malik Shehzad Awan said that due to the wrong policies of the federal government, our transporters are becoming unemployed. The decision by the federal government to change petroleum product prices on a daily basis is unacceptable, therefore it should be withdrawn immediately.
He said that in our August strike, the Minister of Petroleum had promised not to change petroleum product prices on a daily basis, while we had observed nationwide strikes in December and August due to wrong decisions by the federal and provincial governments. On the assurances of the federal and provincial governments, we had postponed the nationwide strike of August for 40 days.
Malik Shehzad Awan clarified that if the federal government and provincial governments do not implement the agreements made with us, transporters across Pakistan will go on a nationwide strike again. The federal and provincial governments had asked for 40 days, which is ending next week.
The President of All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance demanded that the federal government and provincial governments provide relief to goods transporters, fully implement the promises made to us by the federal and provincial governments during the nationwide strikes of December and August, and if increasing petroleum product prices is a compulsion for the government, then transporters should be given relief in all other taxes including withholding tax and toll tax.
