Gabriel Martinelli Departs Arsenal for Al Hilal in Record-Breaking Deal
The Brazilian forward concludes his seven-year tenure at the Emirates Stadium in a £60 million transfer to the Saudi Pro League.

Arsenal have officially confirmed the departure of forward Gabriel Martinelli, who has completed a permanent move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The transfer, valued at £60 million, marks a significant milestone for the North London club, establishing the Brazilian as the most expensive sale in Arsenal's history. This fee surpasses the previous record set in 2017 when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to Liverpool.
Martinelli, 25, arrived at Arsenal from the Brazilian club Ituano in 2019. Over his seven-year stint, he became a vital component of the squad, making 278 appearances and netting 62 goals. His time in England was highlighted by major silverware, including the Premier League title secured last season, the 2020 FA Cup, and the 2023 FA Community Shield.
Despite his contributions to the team's recent success, reports indicate that Martinelli had fallen out of favor under manager Mikel Arteta at the start of the current campaign. Following a period of uncertainty regarding his future, the move to Saudi Arabia was finalized on September 3, 2026, subject to the completion of standard regulatory procedures.
At Al Hilal, the forward faces a new challenge as he joins a highly competitive squad. He will contend for a starting position against established players, including Crysencio Summerville and club veteran Salem Al Dawsari. While the financial terms of the deal are substantial, analysts remain divided on the impact this move will have on the international career of the Brazil star, who has earned 27 caps for his country and represented them at multiple major tournaments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
