Gabriel Martinelli Departs Arsenal for Al Hilal in Record-Breaking Deal

Arsenal have officially confirmed the departure of forward Gabriel Martinelli, who has completed a permanent move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The transfer, valued at approximately £60 million, marks a significant milestone for the North London club, establishing the 25-year-old as Arsenal’s record sale in their history. This figure surpasses the previous record set in 2017 when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to Liverpool.

Martinelli’s exit brings an end to a productive seven-year association with the Gunners. Since arriving from Brazilian club Ituano in 2019, the winger made 278 appearances and netted 62 goals across all competitions. During his time in England, he played a key role in several major successes, including the club's Premier League title win last season, as well as triumphs in the 2020 FA Cup and the 2023 FA Community Shield.

Reports indicate that the decision for the move stemmed from a shift in squad planning under manager Mikel Arteta, who informed the player that he was no longer part of the long-term project at the Emirates. Despite interest from other Premier League clubs and teams across Europe, Martinelli opted for the move to Saudi Arabia, where he has signed a contract running through 2030.

At Al Hilal, the Brazilian faces a new challenge as he competes for a starting spot against established talent, including Crysencio Summerville and club veteran Salem Al Dawsari. While the move offers a significant financial step, it represents a major change in scenery for the international, who has represented Brazil at multiple World Cups and the Olympic Games. Arsenal expressed their gratitude for his contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors as he begins this new chapter in the Middle East.
