First LNG cargo of October received from Qatar; fear of gas crisis in winter

Due to increase in requirements and limited available supply gas supply to various industrial sectors may be affected in winter
First LNG cargo of October has been received to Pakistan from Qatar, however fear of gas crisis in winter also remains.
Pakistan has received first shipment of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) during October, however concerns remain regarding meeting growing gas requirements in winter season.
LNG carrier Al-Areesh coming from Qatar reached Engro LNG Terminal at 11:05 am Tuesday morning. After that at 12 noon process of reconverting gas into natural gas was started.
It is clear that during winter season 2026-27 total 24 cargoes of LNG will be required to meet country's gas requirements, while this year significant increase in demand of domestic and other consumers is expected in winter.
According to estimates in winter daily gas demand of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) can increase from current 550 million cubic feet to 1,550 million cubic feet. Similarly demand of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is expected to increase from 300 million cubic feet per day to 500 million cubic feet.
Due to increase in gas requirements and limited available supply it is feared that gas supply to various industrial sectors may be affected in winter.
Industries likely to be affected include export and non-export industries, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and cement sector.
