Christiane Amanpour to Depart CNN After Four Decades

After a storied career spanning more than four decades, Christiane Amanpour has announced her decision to step down from her role as CNN’s chief international anchor. The 68-year-old journalist, who rose from an entry-level assistant to become one of the most recognizable faces in global news, confirmed she will officially conclude her time with the network in June 2027.

In a public statement, Amanpour described the choice as the result of extensive reflection. She expressed deep gratitude for her long-standing partnership with the broadcaster, noting that she intends to pursue new professional endeavors while continuing to support the network's commitment to independent journalism.

As part of a gradual transition, Amanpour will scale back her daily news program to a weekly broadcast until it concludes in May. Despite this reduction in her hosting duties, she is expected to continue her international reporting and travel assignments for the network through the remainder of her contract.

Her departure arrives during a period of significant transition for the media organization. The network recently came under new ownership following the $81 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Skydance-owned Paramount. While Amanpour did not explicitly cite the corporate restructuring as a factor in her exit, industry observers have noted the timing of her departure coincides with this new era of leadership.

CNN leadership has acknowledged the profound impact of her tenure. Mark Thompson, the network's chairman, stated that he had been in discussions with Amanpour regarding her decision for several months. He expressed regret over her departure but emphasized that the network intends to honor her legacy and contributions to the field of journalism before her final sign-off next year.
