Brooklyn Woman Faces Hate Crime Charges Following Manhattan Attacks
Anna Mochalova is accused of targeting two Jewish men in separate incidents in the Diamond District.

A 32-year-old Brooklyn resident, Anna Mochalova, has been formally charged with multiple hate crimes following a series of alleged assaults in Manhattan. Authorities state that the incidents occurred in the city's Diamond District, where the suspect reportedly targeted two men wearing traditional Hasidic Jewish clothing. The investigation into these events has been spearheaded by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force, with assistance from local community safety groups.
According to court documents, the first incident involved a 26-year-old rabbi who was allegedly stabbed in the back with a syringe while walking on West 47th Street. The victim reported feeling a sharp sensation and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of a laceration. Prosecutors allege that Mochalova followed the man before carrying out the attack.
Shortly after the initial assault, the suspect reportedly confronted and threatened a second Jewish man in the same vicinity. Law enforcement officials successfully apprehended the suspect following a collaborative effort that included public tips and support from organizations such as the Manhattan Shomrim Safety Patrol.
Facing a significant list of legal repercussions, Mochalova has been arraigned on charges including second-degree assault as a hate crime, menacing as a hate crime, and criminal possession of a weapon. These charges reflect the severity of the allegations and the prosecution's focus on the bias-motivated nature of the attacks.
These incidents take place against a backdrop of rising tensions in New York City. Recent data released by the New York Police Department indicates that confirmed hate crimes have seen an increase of nearly 13% year-to-date, with 463 incidents recorded so far in 2026 compared to 410 during the same period last year. The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to address the uptick in bias-related violence.
