Brookfield Asset Management Establishes New Doha Hub
Global investment firm expands Middle East footprint with a dedicated office in Qatar to bolster credit and infrastructure operations.

Global investment giant Brookfield Asset Management has officially launched a new office in Doha, marking a significant milestone in the firm's strategy to strengthen its footprint across the Middle East. This expansion is designed to deepen the company's engagement with the region, providing a permanent local base to manage its growing portfolio and explore new investment opportunities within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The new Doha operation will be primarily anchored by Brookfield’s global credit platform, which includes the well-known investment manager Oaktree. By establishing a physical presence in Qatar, the firm aims to enhance its ability to collaborate with local institutional investors and sovereign wealth funds, building on its existing regional portfolio which currently spans real estate, private equity, and infrastructure.
Jad Ellawn, Managing Partner and Regional Head of the Middle East at Brookfield, characterized the opening as a natural evolution of the firm’s regional growth strategy. He noted that Qatar has increasingly emerged as a vital global investment hub, and the new office will allow the company to better serve its partners while deploying capital more effectively in the local market.
This move follows a series of high-profile commitments by Brookfield in the region, most notably a $20 billion joint venture with Qai, a subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). This partnership is focused on developing critical artificial intelligence infrastructure both within Qatar and across selected international markets, highlighting the firm's long-term commitment to the nation's economic diversification efforts.
Brookfield currently manages approximately $20 billion in assets across the GCC, and the new office is expected to play a pivotal role in scaling these activities. As global asset managers continue to seek out growth in the Gulf, Brookfield’s decision to plant roots in Doha underscores the firm's confidence in the region's long-term economic prospects and its desire to remain at the forefront of regional investment trends.
