Bloomberg Enhances FX Options Trading with New Programmatic API

Bloomberg has officially introduced a new FX Options RFQ API on its flagship electronic trading platform, FXGO. This development marks a significant milestone, as it provides buy-side institutions with the ability to conduct full programmatic execution for foreign exchange options for the first time. By integrating this technology, traders can now manage the entire request-for-quote (RFQ) lifecycle—from initial trade submission to final deal completion—without the need for manual intervention.

The new functionality is designed to support a wide range of trading strategies, including both vanilla and exotic FX options, across both deliverable and non-deliverable currency markets. By connecting users to a vast network of liquidity providers through a single interface, the API aims to streamline operations and improve execution efficiency for institutional clients.

This strategic launch follows a period of substantial growth for Bloomberg’s FX options business. Since August 2025, the platform has seen a year-on-year volume increase of over 58%, with hedge fund activity specifically surging by more than 75%. These figures highlight a clear trend of systematic hedge funds and asset managers seeking to apply the same level of automation to derivatives that they have already implemented in other areas of their trading workflows.

Kat Furber, Bloomberg’s Global Head of FX Trading, noted that the API is a direct response to the evolving needs of systematic firms. By offering end-to-end RFQ automation, Bloomberg is enabling these clients to maintain consistent, high-speed execution standards across their entire investment lifecycle. This move reinforces the platform's position as a premier multi-bank solution for global financial institutions.
